FALLS CREEK (My Second Home)
FALLS
CREEK - FROM THE BOWL AREA
Falls Creek is
located in the Bogong High Plains Victoria, Australia. It is a
great beginners and intermediates resort with enough advanced
terrain to keep us more advanced skiers amused. Due to this its a
great place for groups and families to ski so everyone no matter
what level can enjoy themselves.
For the beginner Falls Creek at least allows you the luxury of
learning at the top of the mountain and not make you feel bad
being at the bottom and dreaming of getting up there one day. As
you learn there are plenty of home trails and easy runs to get
you going and before too long you will ski down Wombats Ramble
giving you the pleasure of skiing top to bottom for the first
time.
Intermediates have
the whole of sun valley to play in as well as home trails and the
town itself. Falls is a fantastic place for intermediates as each
run from Drover Dream to Ruined Castle gets a little more advanced so
you can progress across the hill run. With the new chair lifts in
the sun valley its becoming much easier to ski there and the wait
in long cue's is pretty much eliminated now.
Advanced skiers well we get the Summit and Maze areas and these
are great, the Summit and Exhibition area gives us bump skiers
some fun and the Maze is through the trees and has some great
winding and challenging runs.
Don't overlook the International run from the top of the summit
you can ski all the way to Gebi's ski hire at the car park either
down the international run (a tip in this area though if its
getting soft or marginal use rock hoppers as there is a lot of
loose stone in the snow) or drop down into the gully.
Falls Creek has much to offer, being on the snow makes it a great
holiday as in the evenings you get to walk around town in the
snow and really feel the atmosphere. For accommodation there are
a few things to consider, if you have beginner children stay near the Falls
Creek Express Lift as their ski school is
at the top of this, the bowl will also be fun for kids this season with the
addition of a new snow adventure park in this area. In the bowl the kids
have a ball with there toboggans off
the bank near the Frying pan.
Older kids and families, couples etc will be well accommodated anywhere in the
village
as it is an easy place to get about. Nothing is to far away in Falls Creek
and the home trails make getting home to any area in town easy, ask a local the
best way back to your lodge.
Getting around Falls Creek has never been easier with the
introduction of a free Shuttle Service from 8am in the morning to 6pm.
This does however get very busy at peak times so allow for this. The
Shuttle
travels around town about once every 30 minutes.
The village is great,
it sits on the side of a hill overlooking Spion Kiope and Mt
Bogong. Summer or Winter the village has a lot to offer, Bars,
Hotels, Resorts and perfect mountain air. Many people ski at
Falls Creek and never really learn to appreciate the true beauty
of the village and its surrounds. The wild life abounds, I have seen Possums, wombats, wallabies and
Kangaroo's. You might even get to
see some imports like a fox or two and Deer.
Falls Creek truly is unique, no other ski village can boast to
be ski in ski out like Falls Creek and it just gets better every
year.
The introduction of a free
shuttle service in the village (winter only) has made getting around with little kids easier than ever.
This service runs from early morning to 6pm.
Have fun in my
favourite place.
